Elbling — Le centenaire

Moselle Luxembourgeoise AOP

Elbling

Le centenaire

In the glass

Over 125 years old, on their own roots, planted before 1900 on the Hoelt — our Elbling vines are the oldest in Luxembourg. Phylloxera, which devastated Europe from 1860 onwards, never reached Rosport, and these gnarled stocks remain like living sculptures. With this Elbling we entered the first Luxembourg wine into Slow Food's Ark of Taste. A clean, mineral nose with a fine saline note from the limestone bedrock. Dry on the palate, fresh, with quiet hints of apple and lemon — a wine that doesn't need to raise its voice. With trout from the Sûre, a fresh goat's cheese, or simply on the terrace at the end of the day.

The terroir

The Hoelt is our finest parcel, on the plateau above Rosport. The vines root deeply into limestone and rocky soil that breathes and holds water. The forest bordering the vineyard cools the summer nights — that tension between sun and freshness gives the Centenaire its precision.
