From a meadow on the Hoelt — since 2007

At twelve, Luc wanted to be a forester; at seventeen, the wish for a vineyard of his own joined in. It begins with a meadow on the Hoelt above Rosport, where two cows used to graze every summer — until grandfather Nic put the plough to it in 2007 and we planted twelve ares of Pinot Gris in sélection massale. Organic certification (LU-Bio-05) followed in 2009. For sixteen years, we grew the grapes on the slope and had another vintner bottle the wine for us. Since 2025, that has changed: we now vinify in our own small cellar, with a tasting room next door. On 21 June 2026, we open the doors — for tastings, visits, and walkers coming down from the Mullerthal Trail. A situation we did not aim for — but one we are grateful for.

Luc — by hand, from vineyard to cellar

Maison Viticole Roeder is a family estate — run by hand. Luc chose organic farming many years ago, simply because nothing else felt right. We work without a large staff or a marketing machine. What makes our wines distinctive happens in the vineyard, settles patiently in the cellar, and still gets signed by hand on our business cards.

Protecting nature through winegrowing

Organic, for us, means no synthetic pesticides, no mineral fertilisers, permanent cover-cropping between the rows. Our LU-Bio-05 certification is audited at least once a year by the Karlsruhe control body in Germany. But organic is more than a label — it is a way of thinking from the soil up, with a vine that has to last three generations. The Hoelt above Rosport is one of the rare parcels in the Sûre valley that has never been consolidated — shell limestone soil, its own microclimate, and a mosaic of terraced vines, dry meadows, hedgerows and small woods on the smallest of areas. Terraced vineyards take three times the work of consolidated plots — handwork is not an option here, it is a given. More than 600 metres of dry-stone walls that we maintain in our parcels provide a precious refuge for wall lizards and slow worms across the Sûre valley. „Protecting nature through winegrowing" means: every sip plays its part in keeping the Sûre valley's cultural landscape alive — and that is what we try to pass on, the way we found it. Or better.
